The Birth of Feminisaah Artistry – Pursuing Your Dreams

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Nisa, and I am a makeup artist currently located in Austin, Texas. I’d like to use this first post to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Trinidad & Tobago. My family came to the States when I was seven years old. As a child I enjoyed staying up late and watching runway shows during Fashion Week. I loved seeing interviews with the designers and makeup artists, as they discussed their inspirations and techniques. My passion for the arts led me to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Studio Art. I went on to pursue a degree in Fashion Design from Drexel University, but eventually completed my Bachelor of Arts in International Area Studies. Why did I switch my major? I got scared of pursuing my dreams. Doubt set in about my talents and abilities, so I chose to study something more academic.

After working for a few years as a research assistant and in retail makeup sales, I decided to return to school. I graduated from Towson University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education. After working as an art educator in the Baltimore County Public School System, I moved to Austin, where I began working at Sephora while I completed my graduate certification in Interactive Media Design. Upon completing this certification, I found that while I enjoyed web design, I wanted to pursue my true passion for makeup artistry. I became a certified color artist and SUBC Facilitator with Sephora. Not only do I perform custom consultations at Sephora, but I also teach the makeup education classes at my store location!

With the ever-growing requests for on-site makeup services from my repeat clients, I decided to pursue freelance artistry, and Feminisaah Artistry was born! I am so so proud and happy to finally be fulfilling my dreams. In this blog I’ll be sharing all of my thoughts on navigating the start of my business, products I love, answering questions about techniques, and whatever else comes to mind. If you’d like to look at more of my work or just see what I’m up to, please feel free to follow my journey here, as well as on social media (Instagram @feminisaahartistry; Facebook @feminisaahartistry). Thank you for the love and support!
